The Task at Hand

My father (well most of my Uncles for that matter) are accustomed to the overnight shift.  I used to think that overnights were a great idea.  You would have the days free, less traffic etc and that the sleep cycle would just change and not be too bad.  The truth is it really isn't that bad but those transition days do take it out of you.  I woke up the other day at 2:30 am wide awake and ready to face the day.  A bit rough.

Anyway, just a word of warning, readers, that it may get a bit technical around here.  Remember, this blog is for you and I.  I need it to keep myself motivated for studying so here is some of the stuff I'm learning...
  • Learning Network Security Protocols on the Network+
    • Do not need to be too detailed, focus on overview level
    • Kerberos
    • AAA
    • Chap, MS-CHAP
    • Encryption, specifically, common standards SSH and Tunneling
    • IPSec
    • RADIUS
    • TACACS+
  • How do all of these interact together in the secure environment?  Consider looking at some settings to see if this helps.  I can learn what these are all individually but they all work together, split them up but more importantly, combine them.
  • Need to make those flash cards for the Port numbers!! Do this ASAP!
  • Do the same with some windows commands and know all the switches!  ipconfig/netstat/nbtstat etc
I don't have a set in stone regimen, but, ideally, this is what I want to do.  Go to bed at a decent time, tough to get situated but needs to happen.  Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday .10-2 study  3-6 study.  Review before bed. Off Days Monday and Friday.   Study and read as much as possible at work.  Have about 300 pages left.  I can finish that by next week.  ETA on Network+, 2 weeks.  Finish all reading by next week and all flash cards.  Sign up for test in the last week of April, 1st week of May.  Review and Practice Exams the final days before test.  80% to pass.  Fogo De Chao.
