Whoa Nelly!

A quick thank you to all the friends and family who have wished me well during all this.  It means a lot and while there are still mountains of things to learn, it is great to hear all the supportive things.  I should have a really neat surprise for everyone sometime tonight or tomorrow.

It is important to not get ahead of yourself in any endeavor.  I'm tossing out all these things I want to learn and industry certifications I want to attain, but the bottom line right now is that I am working overnights 8pm-8am, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  These are prime BBQ nights!!

Sure I can spit out all this fancy wording about networking, protocols and other junk.  But today I got to work on this HVAC unit that without it, no matter what fancy switch or server you may have in your network, without cooling and air flow, can end up as a plain metal box.  It was interesting to see how there is obviously much more to networking and IT than the industry itself.  We have back ups for back ups and our own generator if those fail.  I don't know how my boss keeps it all straight in his head but he does.

In any case, my shift tonight made me pull back the reins a little bit and take it all in.  There is another separate world in addition to the network.  And it is just as complex!  Well, I'm going to the top floor and have myself a smoke, till next time readers!
